The National Sports Council and Polar Seafish Ltd are delighted to announce that Polar Seafish has agreed to become a new Annual Sponsor, to support the work of the NSC in the promotion and development of sport in the Falkland Islands.
Polar Seafish Ltd has agreed to provide £10,000 per annum to be used by the NSC to fulfil its commitments sport in the Islands. This follows on from the success of the Polar Seafish sponsorship of the Falklands Games earlier in the year and is in addition to the regular sports related sponsorships the Seafish Chandlery provides to hockey and other sports.
The NSC is currently assisting Clubs to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year, and the Island Games in Guernsey in 2023. We are also acting as Government’s delivery partner for the new Sports Centre Project to be built on the old rugby pitch site and are preparing a Strategy for Sport to help plan for future investment in sport assets and capabilities. Our new Sport Development Officer Roddy Cordeiro will soon start organising the annual Triathlon, and other exciting events for all ages.
Alex Reid of Polar Seafish said “We are delighted to continue to be involved with the sporting activities promoted and organised by the National Sports Council in the Falkland Islands. It is encouraging to see that year after year more of our citizens become involved in the many different sporting activities available to us. We believe that this helps boost physical and mental health as well as a positive mindset. Many of these athletes will go on to become ambassadors for us in international events around the world, just as so many have done in the past. Polar Seafish feel privileged to be able to be part of these activities”
Mike Summers, Chair of the National Sports Council said “Our commercial sponsors are essential to the work of the NSC, and without them we would struggle to do many of the things we do. Polar Seafish has taken a keen interest in Falklands sport, and we are grateful for their support. Annual sponsorships are also provided by Sure South Atlantic, Stanley Services Ltd and Argos Ltd. Many other companies and businesses also sponsor individual clubs or events, enabling young people in particular to benefit from the teamwork and fitness engendered by sport, but it is the annual sponsors who enable us to plan forward.”
