On Monday 25th March 2024, Beauchene Fishing Company Ltd were proud to announce the launch of their 75 metre stern trawler, the FV Hadassa Bay. Built at the Armon Shipyard in the Galician city of Vigo/Spain, The Hadassa Bay was launched at 16.20. Managing Director of the Falkland Islands based Beauchene Fishing Compant Ltd, Cheryl Roberts spoke of the event and said that it was a hugely emotional, proud and successful day for all companies and persons involved. A small launch celebration took place with guests made up of shareholders and families, staff, crewmembers and Armon senior representatives. Some family members of crew currently fishing in Falklands waters onboard charter vessel F/V Castelo joined the group. F/V Hadassa Bay replaces F/V Baffin Bay which sadly caught fire and sank in Vigo harbour December 2020.
Cheryl added that the vessel is under ownership of South Atlantic Squid Ltd, joint venture company with shareholders Beauchene Fishing Co Ltd and Copemar S.A. and that the multi-million-euro investment will now be fitted insitu at Armon Shipyard with final delivery to shareholders during the last quarter of 24.
Following sea trials our crew will join Hadassa Bay during Jan 25 and she will arrive in Stanley in readiness for 1st loligo season 25, latter part of February.
The significant investment represents security and commitment to the Falklands Fishery and economy of our Islands.
