As a result of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Indonesia, members of the Falkland Islands Fishing Companies Association,( FIFCA) have set up a disaster relief fund to not only aid the massive clear up effort but to also show support and solidarity for the people of Indonesia. Whilst members within the Association will be making donations, SCB has confirmed that they have had enquiries from members of the wider community about what they can do to assist in the aid effort. To that end, the “Indonesia Disaster Relief” fund held at SCB is now open to any and all donations from members of the public and other business communities alike. The account number is 202-01358-9000 and is scheduled to run until Friday November 16th.
Indonesia supplies a significant percentage of seafarers working within the fishing industry and on behalf of the wider community and is the thinking behind the setting up of the fund, so all donations of any size are welcome.
Payments can be made at SCB, where you will find pre-filled fund transfer slips for your convenience. Alternatively, you can make payments into the, “Indonesia Disaster Relief” fund numbered above.
Once the account has run its course the final sum will be tallied and all monies transferred to the Disaster Emergency Committee UK,(DEC) where they are best placed to make efficient use of the funds.
Members of the Legislative Assembly have also generously agreed to seek funding through Standing Finance Committee to match fund the amount raised to a maximum of £5000.00, so we are off to a decent start”.
