Beauchene Fishing Company Limited recently presented a cheque for £5000 to the Falkland Islands Hockey Association. This generous donation will be used to go towards the cost of sending the under 16's side to the Latin American Ice Hockey Tournament being held in Miami in September. It is the first time the Islands have been invited to play at the prestigious tournament and given that the Falkland Islands do not have an ice-rink, this really is the, "cool runnings" story for the team, because where once football was the most widely played sport in the Islands, hockey,(under its various formats) has taken that mantle.
In addition, a senior men's squad will also be travelling and as the tournament develops, it is hoped that one day we will be able to send an under 12's side as well as a women's squad. Other companies within the Association such as Seaview Logistics Ltd , JK Marine and Sulivan Shipping Services Ltd, Seafsish Chandlery and Byron Marine Ltd. have also sponsored the teams.
